- Nevernight has received backlash for its negative portrayal of an indigenous-inspired fantasy race with reviewers viewing it as racist toward indigenous people. [1]
- Nevernight has received criticism for what is seen as over-sexualization of the main character, a sixteen-year-old girl. More generally, there have also been claims that it is a misogynistic story using the stereotypical "femme fatale" character. [2]
