Author-Provided Warnings
The following warning can be found on the author's website:
Spirit Houses deals thematically with subjects of illness, death, prejudice, inequality and consent. In one instance the word ‘hermaphrodite’ is used to describe the appearance of a non-human demon. One of the main themes is a relationship which is quite unhealthy and could be considered coercive, and how the protagonists deal with this and move on. There are scenes of a horror nature throughout, including medical and surgical procedures, however there is no excessively graphic gore or violence. The supernatural beings in the story include children and animals. All of the themes are portrayed within a quasi-historical (early 20th century) fantasy setting.
